Snowtrail Privacy Policy
Version 2026-10-01-connected-v3 ยท Effective October 1, 2026
This policy explains what Snowtrail collects, why, who sees it, how long we keep it and what you can do about it. It covers the Snowtrail app, our servers and our emails, and people who appear in recordings. Voxle Inc., a Delaware corporation doing business as Snowtrail ("Snowtrail", "we"), is responsible for your information. The Terms of Use and, once you sign it, the Contributor Agreement also apply.
Snowtrail records how you use your computer, builds datasets from those recordings, and licenses them to AI labs that train AI to use computers. We never sell or give your information to advertisers, and Snowtrail shows no ads.
What we collect
Recordings. While recording is on, Snowtrail records your screens and what you do on your computer: the text you type, your clicks and scrolls, and the apps, windows, files and websites you use. It also records technical details about your computer and each recording, such as timing and display layout.
Account information. You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email address, or with Google. We keep your email address and, if you use Google, your Google account ID. We also keep what you send us when you contact us.
Google sign-in. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us. We use them only to create and run your account, keep them as account information, and share them only with the providers that run our sign-in, servers and email, or when the law requires it. We never sell them or use them for ads.
Device and status information. While you're signed in, the app tells us every few minutes whether it is recording, paused or stopped, which versions of the app and your operating system it runs, and sends crash and error reports. About once an hour, the app checks download.snowtrail.app for updates and installs them by itself. Those requests carry your IP address and the app version. None of this contains anything from your recordings.
Upload and server records. When the app sends a recording, we record when it arrived, its size, its SHA-256 fingerprint and the device that sent it. Our servers log the IP address behind each request, including uploads, and keep those logs for 30 days in Google Cloud.
Consent, agreement and payout information. Our servers record when you give or change consent to recording and sending. The app keeps your notice acceptance history on your computer. When you sign the Contributor Agreement in the app, your full legal name, the signing time and the agreement version are saved on your computer. That signature is not yet sent to us; we will collect the agreement records we need before licensing your recordings or paying you. Before paying you, we or our payout provider may collect payment details, identity information and tax information. We receive only what we need to pay you and keep tax records.
You don't have to give us any of this. But Snowtrail can't record without an account and your consent, and we can't pay you without the Contributor Agreement and payout details.
What we don't collect
- sound from your microphone, or anything from your camera
- any recording before you finish setup, while you're signed out, or while recording is paused
- apps on your Never record list. Snowtrail hides their windows and ignores what you type in them. Common password managers are on the list from the start, and you can add any app.
- notification banners
- what you type into password fields that your computer marks as secure
These protections are not a guarantee. Sensitive information, including visible passwords, can be captured. A password typed into an ordinary text field is recorded like any other text.
Where it comes from
- from you, when you set up the app, sign in, sign the Contributor Agreement or contact us
- from Google, if you sign in with Google
- from the app on your computer, which records and uploads as this policy describes
- from our payout provider, once payouts launch, about your identity checks and payouts
- from other contributors' recordings, if you appear in them
What recordings can contain
A recording shows whatever is on your screen and everything you type. That can include your messages and emails, financial and health information, other sensitive details such as your religion, politics or sex life, and other people's names, messages and faces. Recordings reach us exactly as recorded: not cleaned and not anonymized. You can pause anytime, or add an app to Never record.
How recordings reach us
With current sending consent, the app first sends a list of your recordings. Snowtrail staff select recordings from that list. Only selected, finished recordings upload, at least 24 hours after they end. That gives you time to delete them first. Recordings made before you consented, or while sending was off, never upload. Pausing stops recording and sending. You can turn sending off in Settings. You may use your account on more than one computer.
How we use information
- to review, clean, label and prepare recordings into datasets for training and testing AI that uses computers
- to license those datasets to AI labs, using only accepted, cleaned recordings from contributors who signed the Contributor Agreement
- to improve the Snowtrail app and our cleaning tools
- to run your account, pay you and keep tax records
- to detect fake or automated activity; using more than one computer at once is allowed
- to keep Snowtrail working and secure, through status reports, crash reports, updates and server logs
- to meet legal obligations
- to contact you about your account, your pay and changes to these documents
Review and cleaning
Snowtrail staff can open uploaded recordings to review them. Before we share anything with a buyer, we clean it. Cleaning means removing or hiding personal information and information about other people. Staff and AI tools do this work. We haven't cleaned any recordings yet, because we haven't shared any with a buyer. Cleaning reduces what a buyer can see, but it can miss things, so a buyer may still see some personal information.
Automated tools help decide whether to accept a recording and whether activity looks automated or fake. They check things like whether a recording is usable and whether its input looks like a real person's. You can ask for a person at Snowtrail to review any such decision, as the Contributor Agreement describes.
Who we share information with
Service providers that handle information for us under our instructions:
- Google Cloud, Cloudflare and Supabase, which run our servers and sign-in, and store recordings and account information
- Resend, which sends our emails, including sign-in codes
- AI model providers, such as NVIDIA, Google, OpenAI and Anthropic, that help label and clean recordings. We only use AI model providers under terms that don't let them train their own models on your recordings.
- a payout provider, such as Tremendous, which pays you and checks identity and tax details once payouts launch
AI labs and other buyers. We license datasets of cleaned, accepted recordings to companies that train AI to use computers. Some laws call this a "sale" of personal information. It is the only kind of sale we make. Buyer contracts forbid re-identifying or contacting people who appear in recordings, and pulling passwords or account details out of them.
Legal and safety. When the law requires it, or to protect people, prevent fraud or report illegal content.
Business transfers. If Snowtrail is merged or sold, your information moves with it and stays under this policy.
Legal bases
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland or another place whose law requires a legal basis for using personal information, we rely on:
- consent, for recording and sending, including your explicit consent to the sensitive information about you that recordings can capture. You give it at setup. You can withdraw it by pausing, turning sending off or signing out. Quitting or uninstalling stops that computer from recording or sending, but doesn't erase its recordings or sign out your other computers.
- contract, to run Snowtrail and your account under the Terms, and to license accepted recordings and pay you under the Contributor Agreement
- legitimate interests, to keep Snowtrail working and secure, prevent fraud and improve Snowtrail, and to handle information about other people that appears in recordings, which cleaning aims to remove
- legal obligation, for tax and payment records
International transfers
We store information in the United States. We and our providers may also process it in other countries where those providers operate. If you live outside the United States, your information is transferred there, where the law may protect it differently than at home. Where the law requires it, we protect transfers with approved safeguards such as standard contractual clauses. You can ask us for a copy of them.
How long we keep it
- On your computer: up to 7 days while the app runs. If the app isn't running, it deletes expired recordings the next time it runs. It may delete them sooner to save disk space. Recordings made before the app added sign-in stay until you delete them in Settings, and never upload. Uninstalling doesn't delete recordings.
- Uploaded originals: deleted 90 days after upload, including if you never sign the Contributor Agreement or we reject a recording.
- Accepted, cleaned recordings: kept while they are part of datasets we offer. We review them every 3 years and delete them when no longer needed.
- Datasets already delivered to a buyer: governed by the buyer's contract. We can't recall delivered copies.
- Account and device information, including what Google shares if you sign in with Google, the list of your recordings, and upload and deletion records: while your account is open and 2 years after it closes.
- Server logs, including IP addresses: 30 days.
- Consent records, and agreements, payout and tax records that we receive: 7 years after your last payout or account closure, or longer if the law requires. Agreement signatures and notice records saved only on your computer stay there until you remove them, or until we collect them for licensing or pay.
- Support messages: 3 years.
- Records of staff access to recordings: 90 days.
Your rights and choices
Wherever you live, you can:
- pause recording, turn sending off, or sign out, at any time
- delete recent recordings in Settings, from the last 15 minutes up to everything. While you're signed in, this also deletes them from our servers and your other computers. A computer that's offline finishes deleting when it reconnects.
- ask for a copy of your information
- ask us to correct or delete your information, or to close your account
- withdraw a recording or end the Contributor Agreement, as that agreement describes
European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland. You can also object to our use of your information, ask us to restrict it, get a portable copy of the information you gave us, and withdraw consent at any time. You can complain to us, or to the data protection authority where you live or work, such as the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK.
California. You have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, disclose and sell, to correct and delete it, to opt out of its sale, and not to be treated differently for using these rights. In the terms California law uses, we collect identifiers (such as your email address, name, device ID and IP address), internet and other electronic network activity (such as the apps and websites you use), visual and electronic information (screen video) and sensitive personal information (such as account log-ins and the contents of your messages). Because recordings show whatever is on your screen, they can also hold information in any other category, such as financial, health or work details. The sources, purposes and recipients are listed above.
The only sale we make is licensing cleaned, accepted recordings to AI labs, and only after you sign the Contributor Agreement. We haven't made one yet. We never "share" personal information for targeted ads. To opt out of sale, don't sign the agreement, or ask us to withdraw your recordings. We treat any opt-out request as a request to withdraw all of them, and then stop including them in new datasets. Ending the agreement alone doesn't withdraw recordings we already accepted. Withdrawn recordings stop earning, because pay comes only from sales. We don't use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you, and we don't knowingly sell information about anyone under 16. You may use an authorized agent to make a request.
California notice of financial incentive. You receive a portion of the net revenue from datasets that include your accepted recordings, as the Contributor Agreement describes. This involves your recordings, the information in them and what we need to pay you. You opt in by signing the Contributor Agreement in the app. You can withdraw at any time by emailing us to end the agreement or withdraw your recordings. We value your data at what buyers pay for datasets that include it, and your pay is a portion of that. Until a dataset sells, we can't estimate that value.
Other US states. Your state may give you rights like California's. We honor them the same way. If we turn down a request, you can appeal by replying to our answer. If we turn down your appeal, you can contact your state's attorney general.
Other countries. Where your local law gives you similar rights, we honor them.
To make any request, email support@snowtrail.app. We will verify your identity before acting, and we reply within one month. If a request is complex, we may take longer where the law allows, and we will tell you why. Some limits apply. We can't recall recordings already delivered to a buyer, but we will remove them from future datasets. We must keep payout and tax records the law requires. Withdrawing consent stops future recording and sending, but doesn't undo what happened before.
If you appear in someone else's recording
You might appear in a recording as the other person in a chat, an email sender, or someone on a video call. Cleaning aims to remove other people's information before anything reaches a buyer. If you think you appear in a Snowtrail recording, write to support@snowtrail.app with anything that helps us find it, such as the date, the app or website, or the contributor's name. We will look for it, remove or hide what we find, and tell you what we did. This also counts as a request to opt out of sale.
Security
The Security page explains how we protect information and what isn't in place yet. Uploads use account authentication and HTTPS. We check their size and fingerprint before acceptance. Recordings are private. Encryption does not remove sensitive information or make recordings anonymous.
Children
Snowtrail is only for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn we have an account or recordings from someone under 18, we delete them. A parent or guardian can ask us to do this at support@snowtrail.app.
Changes
We may update this policy. We will tell you in the app or by email before a change takes effect. If a change widens what we collect or how we use recordings, we will ask you to agree again in the app.
